Beer Contains a High Amount of Silica
Homer Simpson and other beer drinkers can now breathe quietly. Scientists have decided: the beer is good for our health. A study made on 100 beers showed that beer is rich in silica which is found in barley, the key ingredient in beer. Silica helps to strengthen bones and to prevent osteoporosis. Even after the process of transforming barley into beer, the silica remains in beer as orthosilicic acid.
Consumed responsibly, beer can bring us many health benefits like: improving heart activity, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, preventing osteoporosis, reducing the risk of obesity, protecting against Helicobacter pylori bacterium which causes most of the ulcers and is a risk factor for stomach cancer.
We often hear the expressions “moderate” or “drink responsibly”. Experts say that drinking moderately means to drink within the limits imposed by our state of health. Also the limits imposed by the society you live in and the responsibilities you have towards your family and friends. The moderate consumption for a healthy man is one to three drinks per day, while for women; moderate consumption is 1-2 drinks per day.
There are two other factors involved here: how big the cup of beer is. A tulip type of glass filled with beer contains 250 ml of this alcohol. This is the reference system we use when we say we drank a glass of beer. By alcohol strength, the percentage of alcohol in beer varies depending on manufacturing traditions and customs.
Being a natural drink, beer contains many minerals, vitamins, fibers and antioxidants, which originate mainly from malt. Silica in beer helps to lower blood cholesterol and to strengthen blood vessels’ walls. Beer is an excellent source of vitamins A, D, E, and especially B. A glass of beer contains two times more antioxidants than a glass of white wine, and vitamins B2, B6, B9, B12, potassium, magnesium and silica.
Beer is a source of soluble fiber from the cell walls of malt. A liter of beer contains about 20% of the recommended amount of fiber which has to be consumed daily. Some types of beer contain even up to 60%. They help the digestion and the absorption of food, reducing cholesterol levels. The amount of “good cholesterol”in blood rises significantly if a glass of beer is consumed daily.
Beer is made from nutritious raw materials like -barley, hops, yeast and water. All these contribute to a healthy and balanced diet. But although moderate beer consumption can provide many vitamins and minerals, it is important to remember that no food source can provide us a full range of separately essential items for a healthy living. As such, the beer always should be consumed in moderation as part of a healthy diet. But if you are a convinced beer drinker, you can chill out about being silica deficient. The high-level of silica in beer plus the silica contribution from other foods you consume, should get you on the right track with the amount of the “so-needed” silica in your bloodstream.
